Job Description

The Position:

Job Summary:

The Public Health Program at Muhlenberg College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment to begin August 2025. Exceptional candidates who have already achieved the rank of Associate Professor at another institution will also be considered at that rank. The Public Health program interacts collaboratively with other college programs and departments and provides a welcoming community for students, staff, and faculty who are deeply committed to undergraduate intellectual growth and well-being. One of the few Public Health programs in a liberal arts setting, Muhlenberg has an exceptional record of dedicated students moving on to top graduate programs. Muhlenberg College has an established record of excellence in teaching, and a reputation that offers collegiality and support to one another, both as instructors and as people. We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusivity in collaboration and interdisciplinary research, and we are committed to hiring and supporting faculty who can contribute to our development of a culturally diverse community through their teaching, scholarship, and service. This is a full-time, tenure-track, faculty position. Muhlenberg's expected teaching load in the first academic year is two courses in the fall semester and three courses in the spring semester, with a 3:3 teaching load thereafter. The successful candidate will provide coverage for teaching several core courses in our program, including Issues in Public Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, and a senior seminar course in the candidate's area of interest. The position will also include opportunities for designing and teaching new Public Health courses, and teaching cross-disciplinary courses that contribute to our new curriculum. In addition to teaching, faculty are expected to serve as mentors for students in our active undergraduate research and internship programs, and also serve as academic advisors and contribute to other forms of college service.

Applicants must hold a DrPH, or PhD (also with an earned MPH preferred) in a Public Health related field by August 2025. Additionally, they will display a commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching and to working with and mentoring students from a broad array of backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups. Alongside displaying a commitment to teaching and service, the successful candidate will have a strong record of scholarship and professional activity in Public Health. Successful completion of satisfactory background checks is also required.

All faculty at Muhlenberg have the opportunity to receive support and opportunities for development through The Muhlenberg Center for Teaching and Learning, which offers a range of programs including pedagogical and mentorship workshops, support for meaningful classroom experimentation, and facilitated interdisciplinary collaboration. The College offers support for research and professional development through internal grants.
