Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Designer/Drafter to join our team. This role will focus on managing design-related projects that support tooling, tooling transfer, process improvements, and other engineering initiatives. The Designer/Drafter will be responsible for overseeing design projects, collaborating with tool shops and suppliers, assisting with process improvements, and ensuring all tooling models and drawings are accurate and up to standard. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, skilled in 3D CAD design, and have strong project management abilities.

Essential Key Functions and Accountabilities:

  • Manage design-related projects, including new tooling, tooling transfers, and process improvements, as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
  • Serve as the primary contact to tool shops and tool design providers for assigned projects.
  • Assist in troubleshooting existing tools and processes to enhance quality, throughput, and profitability.
  • Participate in concept review meetings to support the development of new manufacturing processes.
  • Proactively communicate project statuses and resolve priority conflicts with internal customers.
  • Attend tooling design reviews for both internally and externally completed designs, and ensure the publication of meeting notes and action items.
  • Ensure all new tooling models and drawings are supplied by tool providers and properly filed according to company standards.
  • Create and update tool models and drawings as necessary.
  • Communicate with internal/external customers and suppliers to resolve any issues related to tool drawings or electronic files.
  • Follow and execute company policies and procedures in alignment with the Quality Management System (QMS).

Experience and Education Required:

  • A 2-year degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct experience designing:
  • Assembly Fixtures
  • Welding Fixtures
  • Blanking Tools
  • Forming Tools
  • Multi-Station Progressing or Transfer Stamping Dies
  • Quality Inspection Gauges (Form and True Position)

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3D CAD design skills (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail.

Job-Specific Competencies:

  • Strong process orientation and ability to improve processes and Quality Management Systems.
  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding of metal stamping/forming manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of tool and die design concepts and applications.
  • Expertise in blueprint reading and GD&T.
  • Experience in project management, including Gantt charts, budgets, and risk management.
  • Familiarity with inspection techniques and instrumentation.
  • Proficient in problem-solving techniques such as 8D, fishbone diagrams, and charting.
  • Knowledge of PFMEA, metallurgy, and statistical analysis.
  • Experience with workplace layout and tool/product costing.
