Job Description

Are you a new graduate from a diesel trade school diesel, or are you looking to make a change in the new year? Shenandoah Fleet, has an immediate opening for a junior level heavy truck technician in our Pittsburgh, PA location. You'll have the opportunity to work on a variety of equipment on our contract with Allegheny County. Good hours, convenient location, excellent benefits.

Job Duties:
  • Performs preventive maintenance and routine repairs to all vehicles and equipment assigned to the vehicle maintenance shop. 
  • Completes work order documents noting time and parts and supplies used. 
  • Verifies working order of equipment after servicing is complete. 
  • Performs repair work assigned by lead; may perform road tests on vehicles and equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot problems
  • Reports work status and special problems to lead or foreman in a timely manner.
  • Accurately records time, details and parts of repairs
  • Performs work as directed by lead or foreman
  • Adheres to all safety procedures – OSHA, Company and Customer safety standards
  • Follows verbal and written instructions; meet schedule and attendance requirements; performs all physical requirements of position
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with managers, coworkers, and user departments.


Requirements:

  • Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to a minimum of two years’ experience performing functions such as inspection, repair, modification or troubleshooting equipment
  • Must have at least one ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck, or must obtain one ASE in Medium/Heavy Truck path within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to diagnose and repair all types of equipment
  • Use and care of required tools and equipment; must provide own tools and rollaway box
  • Must be able to perform all physical requirements of position
  • Regular attendance required
  • Graduation from an accredited technical school, apprentice program, or verified military schooling program teaching the mechanic trade
  • Valid commercial operator’s license required for heavy equipment or ability to obtain one; Must maintain current license during the period of employment
  • Basic computer skills required; Knowledge of fleet management system preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complete operational checks
  • Good technical knowledge; excellent people skills and focus on superior customer service.
  • Additional training for Hazardous Waste Accumulation, Pollution Prevention and other training related to the position may be required
  • Team player; ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with others.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English for a working knowledge of hazardous, safety, and environmental warnings, as per contract requirement.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of all types of motor vehicles

  • Timely completion and accuracy of all work.
  • Working closely and harmoniously with other employees.
  • Adherence to contract requirements, safety and health regulations, and company policies.


Work Conditions:

  • May perform work both indoors and outdoors as needed.
  • May be periodically exposed to inclement weather conditions or other work conditions by nature. 


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, twist, kneel and squat or reach with body, arms and/or legs to perform repairs and inspections
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times
  • Must be able to stand for long periods
  • Ability to climb in and out of vehicles
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to work with small fasteners or components
