Department of Social Services is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill a School and Community Engagement Advocate (Bi-Lingual) (Community Developer 1G) position, grade G18 within the
DSS Community Solutions/Programs Division About the Position: The contractor shall perform the services set forth below under the general direction and supervision of the Prince George's County Department of Social Services Office of Strategic Partnerships and Community Solutions. The School and Community Engagement Advocates perform crisis intervention, assessments, case management, home visitations and case follow-up for students and families. This role will provide direct services through managing or facilitating group workshops, referrals and community organizing within Prince George's County, MD. These services will focus on school engagement, developing parents as leaders, and professional development for educators and community stakeholders designed to promote a stable supportive community of resources that foster growth and opportunity.
About the Agency: The Prince George's County Department of Social Services is in the business of providing opportunities for residents of the County to become independent, responsible and stable members of the community. We do this by providing intervention services that strengthen families, protect children and vulnerable adults, encourage self-sufficiency and promote personal responsibility. We assist our customers through such programs as Temporary Cash Assistance, Food Supplement Program, Medical Assistance, Emergency Assistance, and Foster Care and Adoption Service.
Examples of Work - Knowledgeable about PGCDSS' eligibility requirements for specific divisions related to crisis intervention services, including but not limited to: emergency housing, energy assistance, family preservation, food supplement assistance, temporary cash assistance, medical insurance assistance, etc.
- Case management
- Small group instruction
- Work in collaboration with identified school-based partners, school administration, and other stakeholders to communicate program goals and coordinate efforts.
- Conduct regular community outreach to identify partners, families in need, and funding opportunities.
- Provide community and school-based workshops, trainings and professional development based on need.
- Provide direction to assigned students on specific cases and troubleshoot, which may include attending home visits to provide coaching as needed.
- Promote and communicate training and technical assistance opportunities at assigned sites.
- Attend steering committee meetings at assigned schools and provide support for successful outcomes.
- Utilize appropriate technology and software applications to manage tasks, monitor staff performance, etc.
- Analyze weekly, monthly and quarterly data for trends and impact, and develop a plan for action.
- Support reporting of program data to key stakeholders by adhering to requests in a timely manner.
- Attend professional development training to build capacity and understanding of PGCPS' community school framework, national best practices related to case management and strategies for student/family success.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the School and Community Engagement Managers and/ or Senior Program Manager or Assistant Senior Program Manager.
Qualifications - Experience working with youth
- Associate, Bachelor, or Master degree required.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all staff, students, families, and the public.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective time and project management skills.
- Understands and respects the diversity of families' economic, linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrates a high degree of cultural awareness and competency.
- Available to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and some weekends.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, diplomacy, patience, courtesy, and professional decorum.
- Knowledge of research-based strategies that support parent, family and community engagement.
- Ability to appropriately record data and maintain documentation to provide evidence of outcomes.
- Must be comfortable with presenting to small and large groups.
- Computer literacy to include the use of Microsoft Word and Google applications.
- Maintain high level of confidentiality regarding children, families, staff and community stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications: - Bi-lingual fluency in Spanish/English.
- Experience working in an urban/suburban Human Services Agency.
- Experience working or living a diverse community.
- Lived experience.
- Experience working with group collaborations for problem solving and service deployment.

New employees must enroll in the County's health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date. The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the
beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire. After enrolling in the County's benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
