The Senior System Architecture Engineer is responsible for developing and evolving technical network and service architectures, as well as designing strategies to maintain, enhance, and advance T-Mobile's technology portfolio. Key responsibilities include creating, adapting, or revising detailed schematics for network and service architecture, selecting hardware and software, and defining implementation techniques and processes. The role may involve performing, evaluating, or interpreting network simulations, test results, or studies on innovative technologies. Strong technical documentation and presentation skills are critical for translating sophisticated concepts into understandable terms for diverse audiences. The engineer will also influence and contribute to industry forums. This position involves moderately complex technical assignments, requiring sound judgment in resolving issues and making recommendations. Assignments demand significant initiative and consideration of broader implications, with the expectation to propose well-informed solutions. While general guidance is provided for new tasks, minimal direction is needed for daily responsibilities. Job Responsibilities: Operational support for Redhat Linux systems physical and virtual Proactive maintenance / configuration changes Preventative health checks / Performance monitoring Break / Fix Security patching / vulnerability management Compliance monitoring / reporting Understands system protocols, how systems operate and data flows. Aware of current technology benefits and independent studies expected. Expected to lead and deliver complex network and service architecture, design strategies and standards. Deep understanding of the building blocks, interactions, dependencies, and tools required to complete design work. Ability to translate complex technical issues in terms of business impact and business benefits. Drives engineering projects by active contribution to the application of engineering techniques; conducting tests and inspections; preparing reports and calculations. Expected to supervise associate and base level engineers as needed. Develops procedures and processes to validate and enhance and optimize network architecture. Creates appropriate validation tests and inspection techniques and effectively documents results. Able to prepare executive summaries of activities and clearly communicate areas of opportunity. Contributes to designs to implement new ideas which improve an existing and new system/process/service. Understands and can apply new industry perspectives to our existing business model. Review existing architecture, design strategies, standards, and processes to highlight more efficient ways to complete existing workload more effectively through industry perspectives. Seeks opportunities to improve designs, processes, or product by reducing cost, improving efficiency, or quality. Proactively contributes during brainstorming sessions. Drives investigations, leading to new technology concepts that may tackle business problems. Technical Writing: Maintains knowledge of existing technology documents. Writes basic documentation on how technology works. Contributes clear documentation on multiple systems and services used. Able to document systems architecture, design strategies, standards, business requirements and technical interpretation. Develops and provides technical data for incorporation into internal presentations that may translate technical issues into business impact. Collaborates with technical teams and utilizes system expertise to deliver technical solutions. Continuously learns and instructs others on existing and new technologies. Contributes to the development of others through mentoring or in house workshops and learning sessions. Influence technology and policy decisions made across the appropriate functional organization around architecture, design strategies and standards. Drives lab and field trial activities in support of Proof of Concept. Contributes to new and existing technology options that support business goals. Evaluates technologies and proposes technology position for the company within own VP organization. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field of study (Required) Redhat Linux Certification (Preferred) Work Experience: 5+ Years Technical engineering experience (Required) 5+ years experience with Redhat Linux versions 7, 8, 9 (Required) 5+ years experience with Shell scripting (ksh, bash, Perl, python, etc.) (Required) Experience with infrastructure management technology such as Ansible or Puppet (Preferred) Experience with Hypervisors - VMware, OpenShift (Preferred) Experience using ServiceNow (Preferred) Understanding of code review and familiarity with tools like GitHub and GitLab (Preferred) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Focus : Skilled at communicating goals in support of the business' mission (Required) Drive : Self-motivated and capable of working well under pressure (Required) Ability to plan, organize, prioritize tasks, and complete assigned projects with minimal supervision. Self-starter, if you have a question, be pro-active in finding the answer and communicate your learnings with teammates. (Required) Technical Expertise : Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and skill in a technical area. (Required) Experience with Linux servers in virtualized environments (VMware / OpenShift) Strong knowledge of Linux scripting languages (bash, python, etc.) Solid understanding of configuration management tools, such as Puppet and Ansible Solid understanding of central logging tools, such as Splunk Knowledge of automation technologies Forward Thinking : Excels at anticipating the implications and consequences of situations and taking appropriate actions to prepare for possible contingencies. The successful candidate's actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee's eligible earnings in the prior year.
